Data on the price of housing for sale and rent for the month of September show that, on average, the annual return that can be obtained in Spain when buying a property to rent it out is 5.7%.
By regions, Catalonia, the Canary Islands, Madrid and Murcia are the most profitable for buying a home and then renting it out. Thus, Catalonia offers a 6.6% return (up from 6.1% in 2016 and 5.4% in 2015), followed by the Canary Islands (6%, up from 6.1% in 2016, 5.4% in 2015), Madrid (5.9%, up from 5.6% in 2016 and 5.2% in 2015) and Murcia (5.9%, up from 5.6% in 2016 and 5.1% in 2015).
